Quark lost another major client to arch-rival Adobe last month when Associated Newspapers (AN) ditched Quark Publishing System and QuarkXPress from its national titles.
AN has opted for an editorial content management system from Reading-based Atex with Adobe's InDesign and InCopy software.
AN chief information officer Ian Cohen said: "As a large Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator customer, a decision was made to replace QuarkXPress with InDesign as the core solution."
Atex's system will be used to produce the Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday, Evening Standard, Metro and London Lite. The software will also be used to manage content for the publisher's websites.
